Southeast Portland homeowner fatally shoots intruder

A homeowner in Southeast Portland shot and killed an intruder early Thursday morning, a spokesperson for the Portland Police Department said in a news release.

Sgt. Pete Simpson said that multiple people, including the one who was fatally shot by the homeowner, were suspected in the apparent home invasion robbery incident occurred at a home in the 8300 block of Southeast 64th Avenue.

When police detectives arrived at the home shortly before 1 a.m., they found the homeowner injured and the intruder dead. The other suspected intruders fled the area.

Police could provide little information about the home invasion and shooting, but they said the homeowner was cooperating with investigators and more information would be available soon.

Yesterday's shooting was not the first of its kind in recent weeks in Portland. David Daniel McCrary, a 59-year-old resident of Gresham, was fatally shot by a woman in her Southeast Portland home on 26th of June.

On June 22, 33-year-old former NFL player Stanley Wilson II was shot and injured during an alleged attempt to break into a home in Southwest Portland. Earlier, 33-year-old Tara-Alexis Ford fatally shot McCrary, who had broke into her Powellhurst-Gilbert home.
